Obscure rivalries

Please contact us or leave a comment on teams which have obscure rivalries. This maybe in lower leagues, teams that play very infrequently due to historically being in different leagues or are not obvious due to geographical distance (the opposite of a local rivalry). A list will be published in due course.

Football v Snooker Etiquette for fouls

Football players routinely make claims during play for throw ins, corners, free kicks, penalties etc when they clearly must know this is an incorrect claim, otherwise termed as cheating or attempting to cheat. This is in stark contrast to snooker players who assist the referee by calling out when they commit a foul. Are there certain football players who are the worst proponents of this? Does this fuel the hating of certain teams?

FA Cup Renews less Frequent Clashes Between Rivals

The random nature of the FA Cup draw facilitates fixtures between rival teams which would not normally occur in a season due to the concerned teams being in different leagues. Recent examples in the 2023/24 season are Newcastle United v Sunderland and WBA v Wolves. The latter resulted in fan induced delay within the fixture of around 30 minutes. It is feasible to assume that the hatred between the supports has not been able to be vented in recent times and built up over time, compounded by the "all or nothing" nature of the FA Cup knockout format.

Hate or Ignore

 As part of our research it has been suggested that some football fans or supporters don't hate any other team but rather choose to ignore teams they are not interested in.

Sheffield Wednesday the Most Hated Team in Yorkshire

During our research into understand reasons for hate of football teams, a TikTok post claimed that Sheffield Wednesday are the most hated team in Yorkshire in the opinion of fans of other Yorkshire teams. No reasons were provided why fans hate Sheffield Wednesday.
